Catch Sunburst Director Alex Stanton Live at Sunburst March 16th!

alex stanton Sunburst founder and director (and me, your faithful Sunburst News Editor) will be taking the stage at Sunburst for a solo acoustic performance on Saturday March 16th as part of the BurghSong Concert series, which pairs local and touring songwriters for intimate shows. Alex’s music project townsppl was just awarded the 2018 Local Album of the Year from WYEP, he’ll be performing some songs from that record, as well as testing out some brand new ones. The show also features Alice Peacock from Nashville.

Tickets are $10 for Sunburst students and families, with Alex’s share going to the Sunburst Music Scholarship Fund.

House Band Student Feature: Shira?? ⚡️

Meet Shira, the keys player and vocalist for this year’s House Band! She’s been a student with us for about 5 years and is quite the multi-instrumentalist! In addition to voice and keys, she also plays the guitar and bass. You can see her sing lead and play guitar in her other band Korok, which is also part of the Sunburst Band Program. We’re stoked to have Shira in the House Band this year!

1. What Instruments do you play?
I play bass and I sing

2. How long have you been playing your instrument?
I have played bass for the last 4 years and have been taking lessons as sunburst for around 3. I started taking voice lessons with Casey when I was 4 or 5 so it’s been about 11 years.

3. What inspired you to start taking music lessons?
My older sister is a musician and has always inspired me to play music - I love playing and singing with her.

4. What have you been listening to lately?
Lately I’ve been listening to Rosalia’s new album LUX and a lot of Bobby Gentry.

5. What song are you most excited for your friends to hear at the next House Band show?
I’m really proud of like eating glass - the instrumental is complicated but I think we all sound really together and it shows how we work as a team.

We're looking to capture the everyday magic that happens at our school, including students in lessons with their teachers, group classes and band rehearsals in action, Music Together classes in session, and students around our studio simply enjoying making music! All participants will receive hi-rez copies of their photos to send to grandma, print on a mug, etc.—plus our eternal gratitude!

The Sunburst Producers Meet Up is a free monthly session hosted by @cscott412 —his track is featured on this post! New and established producers ages 14+ are encouraged to join and share their works in progress and receive feedback from peers. All genres and levels of experience are welcome as well.

Participants are encouraged to come with music to share in a .WAV, .AIFF, or high quality .MP3 format.

This group meets on the second Friday of every month from 7-9pm in our lobby. We hope to see you this Friday!
