Join the Sunburst Band Program

The Spring Term of the Sunburst Band Program kicks off this February and enrollment is now open! With groups for kids, teens, and adults, the Band Program gives students the chance to rehearse weekly in a real band, learn covers and originals, and work toward live performances in professional venues.

Bands are grouped by age and experience, with a focus on collaboration, musicianship, and confidence. Students build skills you can’t get in private lessons alone, locking in with a drummer, listening across the group, and learning how songs actually come together.

Before the new term begins, current bands will take the stage at the Fall Band Program Showcase on January 25 at Mr. Smalls Funhouse. It’s a great snapshot of what students work toward each term, and a preview of what new bands will be doing in the spring (Perhaps at some kind of 15TH anniversary party for Sunburst??).

To learn more about the available groups and the program, you can fill out the inquiry form below - feel free to reach out with any questions!

Thank you for a successful winter recital!

We are incredibly grateful to our students, families, instructors, and supporters for making this Winter Recital Season another wonderful success! Over the course of three weekends and 18 recital sessions, our students shared their hard work, growth, and musical gifts, and we could not be more proud of each performance.

We would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who was flexible and understanding with the rescheduling of our Sunday recital at Haven on December 21st due to weather conditions. Your patience and cooperation truly helped us ensure a smooth and positive experience for our performers. At the same time, we sincerely apologize to those students and families who were unable to perform due to the reschedule. Please know that we value your commitment and look forward to celebrating your musical progress at the Spring Recital in June 2026!

Because of your generosity, we raised over $1k throughout the recital season to support our Scholarship Fund. These contributions directly impact students who are unable to pay for lessons, helping to ensure that music education remains accessible to all.

Thank you again for your continued support, generosity, and commitment to our music community. We look forward to an exciting Spring season ahead!

Staff Updates

We would like to share an important update with our Sunburst community. Our Office Manager, Saige Smith, will be concluding her time with us as she prepares to relocate to New York City to pursue her acting career.

Saige has been an invaluable part of our school’s daily operations, supporting our students, families, and staff with exceptional care, professionalism, and dedication. From scheduling and communication to keeping the office running, her contributions have made a lasting impact on our community. We are deeply grateful for the time, energy, and heart she has poured into Sunburst. We invite our students and families to join us in wishing Saige continued success as she steps into this exciting new chapter!

We are also pleased to share that admin Erin Higgins will be stepping into the role of Office Manager, with Akiliann Bray serving as our Assistant Office Manager. We are confident they will continue to support our community with excellence and care.

2026 Policy Update

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our policy survey last fall, we were truly amazed by how many thoughtful responses we got. Based on your input, we are excited to share updates to our private lesson make up policy:

  1. No cap on makeup lessons
  2. 24 hours’ notice required (except in cases of illness or emergency)
  3. Makeup passes are now valid for 6 months (extended from 3 months)
  4. More available makeup times - we are expanding our self-service booking window to display more options and are also working toward offering additional dedicated makeup times with our busiest instructors

Full details on the update are on our Terms page, the rest of the changes there are mostly clarifications to existing language. Thanks again for providing your feedback and for being a part of things at Sunburst!

Thanks for reading!

Let us know if you have any questions, comments, etc. Thanks as always for being a part of the Sunburst Community!

As summer break comes to a close, we’re gearing up for the next term of the Sunburst Band Program and would love to see some new faces this fall. Playing in a band is one of the best ways to progress as a musician, so we put together a list of five reasons why we encourage our students to seek out opportunities to play in groups—whether it's starting a band or jamming with a couple of friends. Progress Your rhythm, timing, and listening skills improve quickly when you start playing in a band or group setting. While private lessons and solo practice are essential pieces of the puzzle, playing with others introduces new variables—like tempo changes, dynamics, and coordination—that challenge you to stay in sync with your bandmates and adapt to each other. We’ve seen so many students level up after just a couple months in the Sunburst Band Program–the progress happens fast! Friends and Connections We love watching our students and their families become friends and our band program has been a natural starting point for many of those relationships. Some of our current bands have stayed together for years, and it's awesome to see them hang out outside of lessons and support each other at shows. Plus, one of the best ways to get gigs is through connections with other musicians! Motivation Playing in a band is super motivating because you're part of a group working toward an exciting shared goal. Whether you're learning a new song, building a set list, or getting ready for a show, the process becomes more exciting and rewarding when you're making music you love with people you enjoy being around. That shared energy turns practice into something much more fun and meaningful. Performing Performing can be nerve-wracking, but it gets easier the more you do it, and being on stage with your friends makes it less scary. We love seeing how our students' stage presence and confidence grow with each performance—it’s one of our favorite parts of being teachers! As we mentioned, shows are a great place to make connections with musicians who you’d like to collaborate with in the future. Simply put, playing more shows leads to playing more shows. Creative Outlet Music is a powerful tool for expression, and it’s important to have outlets for that at any age! Life is very fast paced for many of us, and it can be tough to pause and do the things you enjoy. Band practice can be a consistent anchor in your week—something you can rely on for connection, processing, and creating with your bandmates. As corny as it sounds, playing music is good for your spirit! If you’d like to know more about the Sunburst Band Program, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us for more information. We also recommend talking with your private lessons instructor so that they’re aware and can help you prepare.
