Take Your Talent to the Big Stage
The Sunburst House Band is our super-group program for young musicians looking to challenge themselves, perform at exciting events, and collaborate with other dedicated players. This audition-based ensemble brings together some of the most passionate and skilled students at Sunburst to form a high-energy band that represents our school at community events, festivals, and more.
If you’re ready to level up your playing, hone your stage presence, and be part of an exceptional team of young musicians, the House Band is your next step. Talk with your instructor about how to best prepare for the audition process. We hope to see you at the next one!
How It Works
The House Band runs October–June each year, with new auditions held at the start of each term.
Rehearsals are held every week and each term will include 3–4 gigging opportunities as well as recording sessions and other professional development activities.
Who Can Join?
The Sunburst House Band is open to students ages 10-17 who are enrolled in lessons at Sunburst or the Sunburst Band Program (House Band is FREE for students enrolled in another Band Program Group). Students can audition on Guitar, Bass, Drums, Piano, or Voice.
Audition Criteria
Auditions for the Sunburst House Band are quite simple. Choose a 2 minute song excerpt that you feel best showcases your ability on your instrument and perform it for our panel of teachers. You can perform solo or with a backing track. Students wishing to audition for multiple instruments (for example, guitar and vocals) have the option of doing a second song.
Why Audition?
Even if you’re not sure you’re ready, the audition process is a fantastic way to build confidence, gain experience, and set personal goals for your musicianship. We encourage all Private Lesson, Band Program and Band Coaching students to audition – whether you make it this term or not, the experience will help you grow and improve for next time.
