About the band
Take your talent to the big stage
The Sunburst House Band is our premier super-group for young musicians ready for a challenge. This audition-based ensemble brings together some of the most passionate and skilled students at Sunburst to form a high-energy band that represents our school at community events, festivals, and venues around the city.
It's a real look at how a band actually works. You will get the chance to learn challenging set lists, sharpen your stage presence, and record in a studio alongside a crew of equally dedicated players.
If you're ready to take the next step, talk with your private instructor about preparing for the next round of auditions. Even if you are on the fence, auditioning is a fantastic way to build confidence, set personal goals, and level up your musicianship!

Who can audition
An ensemble of Sunburst's most dedicated young players
- Ages 10–17
- Enrolled in lessons at Sunburst or in the Sunburst Band Program
- Auditions on guitar, bass, drums, piano, or voice
- Free for students enrolled in another Band Program group

A full year of playing like a working band
- Runs October through June
- Weekly rehearsals
- 3–4 gigs around Pittsburgh each term

Good to know before you book
Who can audition for the House Band?
Students ages 10 to 17 who are enrolled in lessons at Sunburst or in the Sunburst Band Program. Auditions are held on guitar, bass, drums, piano, and voice.
What should I prepare for the audition?
A 2-minute song excerpt that best showcases your ability on your instrument, performed for a panel of Sunburst teachers. You can play solo or with a backing track, and if you play more than one instrument you can perform a second song on a second instrument.
What does the House Band cost?
It's free for students already enrolled in another Band Program group, otherwise it's the same rates as any of our Band Program groups.
What's the time commitment?
The House Band runs October through June with weekly rehearsals, plus 3 to 4 gigs, recording sessions, and other professional development activities each term.
When are the next auditions?
The next House Band auditions are in September 2026, and new auditions are held at the start of each term.
