Winter Recitals are Around the Corner!

We’re thrilled to announce that our Winter Recitals will be taking place on December 5th, 6th, 13th, and 14th!

We’re especially excited that the recitals on the weekend of December 13th–14th will be held at Haven which is an all-ages music venue in Oakland on Atwood St. Haven offers more space than our lobby, allowing for a smoother recital experience and plenty of room for students, friends, and family to enjoy the performances.

All Students are Encouraged to Participate!

We know that performing might be intimidating to some of our students, but just know that our recitals come with a 10/10 supportive and encouraging audience! All of our students regardless of skill level are encouraged to participate. Be sure to talk with your teacher about signing up as well!

A Few Important Details

Participation is free! Donations to our Scholarship Fund are warmly welcomed and can be made during checkout or at the door (cash donations accepted). Thank you for supporting our community!

Each recital session lasts about 50 minutes, featuring 12–15 students and an audience of around 40–60 guests.

Friends and family are encouraged to attend! If you plan to bring more than four guests, please let us know in advance so we can arrange seating.

If you can’t attend your teacher’s assigned session but still wish to perform, please contact us and we’ll do our best to place you in another recital.

The Adults-Only session is on December 5th and is BYOB. We'll have light refreshments available for our students and guests as well.

Some regularly scheduled lessons or programs may overlap with recital times during the first weekend. Please be mindful when entering or leaving the building.

We look forward to seeing everyone perform and celebrate another season with us. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!

House Band Student Feature: Shira?? ⚡️

Meet Shira, the keys player and vocalist for this year’s House Band! She’s been a student with us for about 5 years and is quite the multi-instrumentalist! In addition to voice and keys, she also plays the guitar and bass. You can see her sing lead and play guitar in her other band Korok, which is also part of the Sunburst Band Program. We’re stoked to have Shira in the House Band this year!

I play bass and I sing

2. How long have you been playing your instrument?
I have played bass for the last 4 years and have been taking lessons as sunburst for around 3. I started taking voice lessons with Casey when I was 4 or 5 so it’s been about 11 years.

3. What inspired you to start taking music lessons?
My older sister is a musician and has always inspired me to play music - I love playing and singing with her.

4. What have you been listening to lately?
Lately I’ve been listening to Rosalia’s new album LUX and a lot of Bobby Gentry.

5. What song are you most excited for your friends to hear at the next House Band show?
I’m really proud of like eating glass - the instrumental is complicated but I think we all sound really together and it shows how we work as a team.

We know that performing might be intimidating to some of our students, but just know that our recitals come with a 10/10 supportive and encouraging audience! All of our students regardless of skill level are encouraged to participate. Be sure to talk with your teacher about signing up as well!

The Adult Only Recital will be on Friday, December 5th from 7-9. Our adult students can choose to perform during their teacher’s specific recital session as well.

Connect and collaborate through rhythm and in the moment music making. Matt will teach the body language and signals to help everyone create exciting and cohesive music in a few short minutes. Musical games, collaborative exercises and social connection games will be presented throughout the drum circle to help the group form a deep and connected groove.

The drum circle will begin at 6pm and go til 8pm.
Participants are encouraged to stay for the full session, but are also welcome to pop in and out.

No previous drumming or musical skill is needed and instruments are provided. Feel free to bring your own drum if you have one.
