How did your group get started?
Before the group came to be(e)...lol...Chloe performed as a solo artist, collaborating with various musician friends. Then she found some home bois 4 lyfe and they were Kevin on drums, Bryce Rabideau on guitar, and Jonah Petrelli on bass.
How would you describe your sound?
R&B/Neo-Soul... Jazzy-Pop nectar for your soul.
What's on the horizon for your group?
The horizon = a lot of performing, writing, recording, and promoting. We plan to release at least one single before the end of the year, in preparation for our 2020 album debut. (Oh and we have a cover music video streaming the interwebs this Friday!)

This summer Rose Winston will tour the East Coast and Midwest for a few weeks in August. Look online at www.rosewinston.com

How did your group get started:
I rediscovered some midi files I generated with notation software before I knew anything about harmony or music theory. I liked the mix of randomness and everything being in the same key (I don’t think I knew how to enter sharps and flats in the software). I started writing little things on the guitar, trying to capture this “vibe.” Once the band was put together the music became shaped more by the musician’s personalities and individual styles than by my early unschooled experiments, but we tried to keep an attitude of not worrying if things “made sense.” The big discovery for me was that it's not necessary to set arbitrary limits on the music you are making; in the absence of unlimited time and money limits will present themselves.
How would you describe your sound:
The city paper described our debut cassette as “sitting at the intersection of post-rock’s interwoven trajectories and Captain Beefheart’s atonal laments.”
What’s on the horizon for your group:
We plan on releasing a 4 song EP sometime in the second half of the year.

Sign ups are officially open for our Summer Recitals! As a reminder, each teacher is assigned to one or two 45 minute sessions during the first two weeks of June. Students can sign up by using the link below, or let us know here and we can help get you signed up. A few more reminders about recitals: Participation is free but we also collect donations to our Scholarship Fund . You can add a donation to your check out, or we take cash at the door, thank you for your contributions! Each session is about 45 minutes, will feature 12–15 students and we expect between 40–60 people in attendance. Friends and family are welcome, if you’d like to bring more than 4 family members just please let us know so we can plan seating etc. If you can’t make it to your instructor’s sessions and would still like to perform let us know! We want to make sure everyone who wants to gets a chance. Adults are welcome to perform in the normal sessions with their instructor, or in the special BYOB adults only session! Not all instructors will be in attendance for the adult sessions, so please discuss with them so you know if they’ll be there. Normally scheduled lessons and programs are ongoing during some of the earlier recital times, so please be aware when coming and going during the recitals. We are here to help with any of your recital related inquiries (and all others of course), please let us know. We can’t wait for this year’s performances!!

The first Quest Labs session with the Environmental Charter School was a success! Last month, we launched an intersession music production workshop with a cohort of ECS 8th graders. The Quest Labs program at ECS aims to provide students with opportunities to develop industry-level skills in their areas of interest and collaborate with individuals in their community who have experience working in those fields. Our dedicated instructors, Charlie Scott and Daniel Hayashi, are doing just that! They spent the first day guiding the group through the fundamental aspects of production, covering drums and beat-making, the creation and utilization of basic loops, and navigating SoundTrap—the Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) that we used for the workshop. Even on the first day, this group showcased impressive creativity, leaving us eager to hear how their projects will evolve over the next few months. By the end, we plan to release a compilation of their projects, including original artwork! We hope that you’ll stay tuned for our next recap in the January Newsletter. In the meantime, check out the amazing photos that ECS graciously took for us!

🎸 Calling All Bass Players! 🎸 We are on the lookout for bassist to audition for the 2024 Sunburst House Band! What an incredible weekend of performances for Sunburst students! Our student Open Mic Night on Friday was truly special with a supportive crowd thanks to our amazing community of students and families. Finally Sunday was the culmination of the 2023 Sunburst House Band season at the Government Center. The show included two awesome opening sets from Sunburst related acts Aurora and Abbey Kelkenberg. The House Band put on a blistering performance making a diverse selection of technically challenging songs look easy, and clearly having a blast. Sean (aka the House Band rhythm guitarist) also led the audience in a special birthday serenade to his brother Ethan who is also one of our delightful students! Huge thank you and congratulations to this group! Especially our graduating members Nate and Nina who’ve both been a part of Sunburst groups for a decade. The Sunburst House Band wraps up it’s ‘23 campaign with a show this Sunday at the Government Center! Join us in celebrating the accomplishments of this year’s group! A spiffy little trick from guitar instructor @jonathandigiulian. Check it out… Artificial harmonics are when a guitarist creates a harmonic where it does not naturally occur on the instrument. One way to get these artificial harmonics involves using a specific right hand technique demonstrated in this video. The guitarist most commonly associated with this technique is Lenny Breau. The wait is over! Our remodeling at Sunburst is finally complete. First of all, we would like to thank everyone for their patience during the process. We can’t wait to share our new space with you for years to come. To celebrate, we’re going to be hosting an Open House event on Saturday February 25th from 3-7pm. This event will cater to new and prospective students, current and former students, and our community at large. For anyone looking to try a new instrument we’ll have a few teachers offering free 5 minute “Mini-lessons”, we’ll also be running some demonstrations of our group programs. Current students can tour the school and peek into any of the rooms they don’t usually get to see. We’ll also have performances on stage from students and staff, snacks, games, and a few giveaways. We’ll be posting a more detailed schedule of activities as we get closer to the event. We’d like to thank you, again, for being a part of the Sunburst community. What an incredible weekend of performances for Sunburst students! Our student Open Mic Night on Friday was truly special with a supportive crowd thanks to our amazing community of students and families. Finally Sunday was the culmination of the 2023 Sunburst House Band season at the Government Center. The show included two awesome opening sets from Sunburst related acts Aurora and Abbey Kelkenberg. The House Band put on a blistering performance making a diverse selection of technically challenging songs look easy, and clearly having a blast. Sean (aka the House Band rhythm guitarist) also led the audience in a special birthday serenade to his brother Ethan who is also one of our delightful students! Huge thank you and congratulations to this group! Especially our graduating members Nate and Nina who’ve both been a part of Sunburst groups for a decade. A spiffy little trick from guitar instructor @jonathandigiulian. Check it out… Artificial harmonics are when a guitarist creates a harmonic where it does not naturally occur on the instrument. One way to get these artificial harmonics involves using a specific right hand technique demonstrated in this video. The guitarist most commonly associated with this technique is Lenny Breau. The wait is over! Our remodeling at Sunburst is finally complete. First of all, we would like to thank everyone for their patience during the process. We can’t wait to share our new space with you for years to come. To celebrate, we’re going to be hosting an Open House event on Saturday February 25th from 3-7pm. This event will cater to new and prospective students, current and former students, and our community at large. For anyone looking to try a new instrument we’ll have a few teachers offering free 5 minute “Mini-lessons”, we’ll also be running some demonstrations of our group programs. Current students can tour the school and peek into any of the rooms they don’t usually get to see. We’ll also have performances on stage from students and staff, snacks, games, and a few giveaways. We’ll be posting a more detailed schedule of activities as we get closer to the event. We’d like to thank you, again, for being a part of the Sunburst community.
