About the Jam
This Jazz Jam welcomes teens and adults who are interested in playing and learning more about jazz music. All experience levels are encouraged to join. There is room for everyone! Our instructors Thanakarn Limtham, Stephen Weinstein, and Charlie Scott will be facilitating the jam session, allowing students the chance to play in a group context with a full band, including groups of their peers.
As you may already know, Pittsburgh is also steeped in jazz history where legendary players and composers were born, including Mary Lou Williams, Ahmad Jamal, Ray Brown, Paul Chambers, Art Blakey, and Kenny Clarke. Our intention with this jam session is not only to play the music, but to learn more about the incredible artists and cultures that pioneered what we today refer to as jazz music.
